Kooltherm K10 Soffit Board
Soffit insulation for direct fix to concrete slabs
Deira is the vibrant cornerstone of Dubai’s trading legacy. A place rich in culture and overflowing with history, the expansion of Deira towards the Waterfront is a tribute to the tradition of trade in the country. From waterfront residential apartments overlooking The Creek, to an extension of the Deira Souk, the development will create a bustling hub of life that will add to the already rich tapestry woven by communities past and present. It will become a place in which people realise their potential and find the true meaning of home.
The Challenge
A world-class development like Deira Enrichment Project requires the use of highest grade materials which can pass the stringent requirements of the developer. When it came to insulation and fire safety, the project engineers needed products exceeding the regulatory requirements.
DEP has several buildings with car parks, where soffit insulation is recommended for use. The insulation solution must comply with Class-1 Fire rating as per FM 4880 standard for 'large-scale' fire test for soffit boards. The soffit insulation was specified to be rated Class-1(A) under ASTM E-84 and UL 723 as well as to pass criteria of NFPA 286. All of these fire tests form the basis of a route to compliance as per the requirements of the respective International Codes and Standards aligned to the UAE Fire & Life Safety Code. Furthermore, the Soffit insulation was also required to be approved by Dubai Civil Defence while offering excellent thermal performance.
Our Solution:
The only compliant insulation available in the local market was Kingspan Kooltherm K10, which offered the required specifications while providing a thermal conductivity as low as 0.020 W/m.K.
Kingspan Kooltherm K10 is a high-performance, rigid, thermoset insulation faced on the upper side with a glass tissue based facing and on the exposed side with a low emissivity composite foil, both autohesively bonded to the insulation core during manufacture. It has a fibre-free and closed-cell insulation core, manufactured with a blowing agent that has zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) and Global Warming Potential (GWP) ≤ 5, making it fully compliant with the Al Sa'fat and Dubai Green Building Regulations.
Kingspan Kooltherm K10 was installed in a variety of 30 and 50 mm thicknesses and efficiently met the required U-value targets, thus preventing the heat transfer from the car park area, which is a significant space for the heat transfer to the temperature-controlled zones within the buildings. The solution not only met the project's stringent quality and performance requirements but also exceeded the various regulatory and environmental standards.
