Chapter 10, section 2.2 of the recently implemented UAE Fire and Life Safety Code addresses HVAC Systems and must be considered when deciding which HVAC products to use on a project.
Overview
Following the introduction of the UAE Fire and Life Safety Code, the Middle East HVAC industry has been introduced to a number of new phenolic pre-insulated ductwork products. It’s important to understand the tests and compliances that are required for each type of product by the UAE Fire and Life Safety Code.
The requirements outlined in table 10.1 part II state that Class 0 or Class 1 rigid or flexible air ducts tested in accordance with ANSI/UL 181 listing shall be permitted to be used for ducts when air temperature in the ducts does not exceed 250ºC or when used as vertical ducts serving not more than two adjacent stories in height.
Table 10.1 part III of the UAE Fire and Life Safety Code states that pipe and duct insulation and coverings shall have a maximum flame spread index of 25 without evidence of continued progressive combustion and a maximum smoke developed index of 50 when tested in accordance with ASTM E 84.
